Headaches caused by problems in the neck (cervicogenic headaches):-
Chronic one sided headaches begin at the base of the skull and extend around the head towards and behind the eyes.
These are described as being caused by the tension from the shoulder and neck following nondramatic muscle spasm from forward / backward motion typically seen in minor sports injuries and minor road traffic accidents.
This causes tension at the top of the shoulder area, affecting the nerve to the neck muscles, and due to the proximity of the nerve supplying the neck and the nerve supplying the face muscles this causes referred pain producing symptoms in both areas.
The symptoms that may be experienced include facial pain, jaw pain, pain above and behind the ear and at the base of the skull. /this can lead to chronic headaches
Osteopathic treatment to the relevant levels of the neck and shoulders will ease these symptoms.
